Knitpro Waves Crochet Hook Review

Hi folks!

I have spent a lot of time and effort finding the best crochet hook for me. I thought you’ be interested in a review of my faves.

lots of hooks hook test by Shelley Husband 3

A while ago, I did a very extensive, over the top test of many many hooks.  (You can read about it here) and came up with a clear winner with the Clover Soft Touch Hooks and the KnitPro Waves hooks as a close second. These both suit my crochet style and hold best.

The top 2 are Clover Soft Touch & the bottom 2 are Knitpro Waves

I love working with them.  They are so comfortable to hold, the shafts are super smooth and my hands don’t get tired. Here’s a little video I posted on Instagram showing me with my yellow Knitpro in action

But, since the test,  as you can see above, one of those has won out as a clearly over the other. I use my KnitPro 5 mm Waves Yellow hook almost all the time.  I think it’s purely an aesthetic thing – I just prefer the look of the Knitpro to the Soft touch – weird.  They both do a great job and I don’t even like yellow all that much but I prefer it to the icky brown of the Clovers LOL.  I do use the Clover still, usually when I need a 6 mm hook as I don’t have a Knitpro Waves hook in that size.

You can get a set of 9  Knitpro Waves in a green or pink case on Amazon. The hooks in this set range from 2 mm to 6 mm in .5 mm increments.

I don’t often use hooks smaller than 4 mm though, so I think I’ll save up for some of the bigger ones to try, instead of the set.  The hooks are available individually in other sizes in .25 mm increments for the smaller hooks and all the way up to 12 mm for the bigger ones.

I’m not sure how I’ll like them as when I use bigger hooks, my hold changes from pencil to knife hold.  I’ll let you know what I think of them when I do.

I hope this was useful to hear!

I think you will also like them in the bigger sizes. In my opinion, they are comfortable to hold and I always use the knife grip and my most used hook is 6.5mm.

I am going to try the “waves” hook. It will be interesting to see how I go. I am a very committed Soft Touch user.

My husband, who is learning to crochet this year (5 UK dc squares so far), loves his Knit Pros I bought him for Christmas – along with other notions and yarn. Being a good Aussie, I showed him pen-style first but he soon changed it to knife-style! I had him handling other hooks but he preferred Knit Pro so I went out on a limb and bought him a set and he loves them 🙂
And I agree; Soft Touch is NOT an inspiring colour!
